Plot Outline

Plot Outline
Brett, a young woman from the suburbs, is an associate editor at a small New York publishing house, hoping to be promoted when, on the same day, she meets a literary lion, Archie Knox, who’s 50 and who shows an interest in her, and gets a new boss, a dolly-dolly Brit. Brett is soon dating Archie, then moves in with him. He’s charming, attentive, and gives advice. He also has a history – ex-wives, a distant daughter, a couple of diseases, and a photo album of former girlfriends. It’s no fairy tale: family issues (and more) intervene, and Brett has decisions to make. Meanwhile, she’s working with a writer who fears peanut butter sticking to the roof of his mouth. Is Archie dinner, an hors d’oeuvre, or a peanut-butter sandwich?

Hellgate: London is a likeable action role-playing game that answers the question “What would happen if you took all the loot lust from Diablo and fit it into a first-person shooter?” OK, maybe you weren’t asking that question, but Hellgate is an interesting game. It will probably come into its own after a few more patches, but right now, it has almost as many issues as strengths.

Released near the end of the Xbox 360′s first year on the market, Gears of War was a defining moment for Microsoft’s console. Its gameplay relied heavily on forcing you to take cover to avoid enemy shots, which meant that it required a healthy dose of patience as well as a steady trigger finger. It then beat that mechanic into your head over the course of its quality story mode, while also letting you team up with a friend online to take on the nefarious Locust forces together. Of course, it also had an amazing team-based multiplayer mode in which up to eight shooters could connect and go at it in a variety of different modes. Over time, more multiplayer maps and modes were added to the collection via the Xbox 360′s download service. All of that great stuff is now available on the PC, on which the game looks better than it ever did on the Xbox 360, and without sacrificing anything in the process. If you’ve never played Gears of War, or if you just haven’t played it in a while, do yourself a favor and try this new version of the game.
